Gripe Of The Day

This shirt is falling apart; I saved it from Casey's pile of "get rid of" stuff after he cleaned out the closet. Below, I've illustrated the holes by putting a white piece of paper inside:

About as many holes as the Hawks' defense...

Hey, instead of running around in your own end trying unsuccessfully to poke-check the puck away from your opponents, why don't you f'ing THROW A HIT ON SOMEONE?!?!?!!!

What, no one but Troy Brouwer knows how to body check anymore?!! (okay, yah, Hjalmarsson, and he got suspended for "boarding", but that's beside the point, so shut up.)

You need to hit someone and take the damn puck away. Stop playing all fancy-assed and get TOUGH.

Grrr......

UPS does it again!!!

I am getting more and more disgusted with UPS. Of all things to smash...didja have to put an extra "grind" on my coffee? Seriously.

I mean, what do they do with these packages? Is it that hard to process cardboard boxes without crushing them? Whoever works in the sorting facilities, I hope they're pleased with themselves. Well done, jackasses. You smashed yet another one of the boxes sent to me. Am I on a list somewhere now? WTF?

"Oh, here's another one for that 'Goldie' chick..." says the UPS warehouse worker, as he prepares for a Kevin Butler 56-yard-field-goal-kick with my Gevalia shipment....

Unbelievable.

UPS sucks.

Coupons

Seriously, where are all the good coupons these days?

I have one of those dorky coupon-sorter wallet-looking things, but it is mostly empty now. There used to be a lot of canned goods, dairy, personal items, paper and plastic products coupons in the Sunday newspaper; but, that has dropped off significantly over the past few years.

It is becoming less and less likely that I find usable coupons and this frustrates me. I have signed up with my favorite manufacturers' websites, but I only get coupons sent to me when I’ve complained about something!

Or, and I forget which brand it is, they want you to download their software to be able to print coupons from your computer. Well, I don't want their stupid software screwing up my computer! Grrr...

So what do I do....? What do you do?

My question to you is this:
Where are you signed up online to get coupons, and how happy are you with the service?

My feet hurt!

We were working out in the yard (Sunday) for quite a while, and my feet hurt.

That's it.

That's my gripe. Sore feet.

Gripe Of The Day

Blogger.com is having issues with the images on blog posts, so if you see broken links, that is the reason.

I'd like to post a roasted chicken recipe that I had used this weekend, but I don't want to do double work, and/or have to keep checking back on the status of the blogger.com error.

As soon as I can, I will start posting again.

Thanks for your patience!

Scrambled Defense

So, as you all know, of course, the Hawks are leading the Western Conference standings in the NHL as of now; but, that could all change later tonight. Once again, they are facing a Phoenix Coyotes team who fought their way back into a game on Saturday, took it into overtime, and then beat the Hawks.

What will happen tonight at the United Center? Your guess is as good as mine. But, I can tell you what to watch for.

One problem I have noticed time and time again is a lack of awareness in the defensive zone. Or something. I'm not sure if the guys are playing like a "zone defense" as you'd see in a basketball game, or what they are doing. Apparently, they don't know, either.

A lack of physical play can be blamed, but more than that, I think it is just guys not being aware of what their job is supposed to be when they are defending their net. If they don't know what their assignment it, then things aren't going to go well.

I see the defensemen moving out of positing to cover someone in the corner, and no one coming back to cover the side of the net, nor covering an opponent. The forwards have to be much more aware of what's going on in their zone and stop STANDING AROUND!

Really, I see them waiting at the blueline for the greatly anticipated breakout pass...that's not coming, oh, and guess why?! It's already in your net!!!

Move your feet. Cover someone. You know enough to fill in for the D when they pinch in the offensive zone, so...hey, here's a novel idea: cover for them by the net, or in the slot, when they check an opponent in the corner in your zone.

Yeah, I know the Hawks are in first place now, and I know they can score. But they have to learn to defend their zone a little better, and stop letting the goalies take all the heat for losses.

UPS Smashes Boxes!

Seriously, I cannot remember a time when I've gotten a box delivered by UPS that wasn't smashed.

Here's a good example:

I took these photos before I had even opened the box, in case the contents were ruined, then I planned to file a claim with sucky UPS and ream them a new you-know-what.

Lucky for them, the items in the box were undamaged, so bloodshed was avoided. This time. I do, however, have absolutely no faith in the company as far as delivering packages safely intact.

I mean, honestly, the box clearly says, "FRAGILE" on top, yet by the looks of it, someone used it as a soccer ball.

All I'm asking is, "WTF, UPS?"

(Hey, that's kinda catchy...)

Anyone else had similar experiences?

Going to the dentist today....

It's just for a cleaning, and I have no fear of the dentist. But it's about a 45-minute drive, and that irks me.

Plain and simple: don't want to drive there. Not that I have a fear of driving. Just don't wanna.

Anyone have a fear of the dentist? Any "anti-dentites" out there?!?!!

Don't put salad dressing on a taco salad!

Yeah, it's called a "salad" but you spoil the whole taco effect when you slather it in Ranch dressing.

I'm sorry, but I really have to stick to my guns on this one, friends and neighbors. You can put as much taco sauce and sour cream as you want on top, but leave the salad dressing in the fridge. You can thank me later. Now go and eat your taco salad...

Not only will olive oil fail to prevent bread dough from sticking to a glass baking dish, it will actually encourage it. Grrrr....

Gripe Of The Day

"Don't Stand So Close To Me"

Not just a song by The Police! I mean it. Get away from me. Stop invading my personal space. You're crowding me, and you smell like stale cigarette smoke and dirty feet. Get away!

Tuesday afternoon I had to stop at the post office in town to mail a package that I had promised to send a while ago.

That's when the trouble began.

After getting my hair cut and stopping by to drop something off at my parents' house, I came through town, rather than taking the back roads, so that I could make what I thought would be a quick stop at the post office.

So, first of all, there's someone getting a passport and taking up the time of one of the two clerks, and the other clerk is dealing with a guy who was sending four or five little bitty boxes, and apparently HAD TO pay for them each individually, or some other such nonsense.

There's a woman in front of me with a blue and yellow jacket on, and from the looks of her she could (and maybe should) be playing as a defensive end for the Bears. I step into line behind her, and another woman walks up to where I'm standing. There are no other people in the lobby yet.

For some inexplicable reason, the woman behind me feels it is necessary to stand directly behind me.

Seriously. She was a few inches away. Had I swung my elbow back, I'd have knocked the wind out of her quite handily. (No, of course I wouldn't actually DO that. Did it cross my mind? Yes.)

What's the point? No, really. What exactly is the point? Is it like the "red light principle" where if you crowd the bumper of the car in front of you, the light will magically change and traffic will cease to exist? [sarcasm]

So, now the line is getting longer, and I guess the woman behind me had somewhere to be, because she crept a little bit closer to me.

The clerks are still dealing with passport-girl and bitty-box-man. There are two other post office employees, but they are milling about like members of an ant farm, moving boxes to and fro, with no obvious purpose. Neither acknowledges the growing line in the lobby.

More people enter the post office lobby.

The creeper-woman creeps closer.

I feel like I'm in some kind of weird slow motion horror movie, and a clown with a machette may pop out of a mailbox at any moment and start hacking everyone to bits. (if one does, I'm going to duck and let him slash the creeper-woman behind me...although, in another moment, she might actually be in front of me.)

I stand with my weight on one foot, leaning away from the creeper-woman, but the stale cigarette reek is still obvious. Ew.

More people come into the post office lobby. Someone says, "wow, there is just NO sense of urgency here, is there?"

Bitty-box-man is done and linebacker-woman moves up to the clerk. I step in front of the lobby supply counter and lean back against it, so that creeper-woman cannot crowd any closer to me.

Then it's finally my turn. I'm done and out the door in less than 30 seconds. I never look back at creeper-woman. Glad she's gone. Ew.

p.s.
I hope the clown got her.

Hawks Lose First Pre-season game

Damnit.

Yeah, yeah...it's hockey season again. No, I'm not going to focus so much on Blackhawks games like I did during the Play Offs. But this was just sort of a let down. I'm kinda bummed out.

:-(

It's late right now, but I'm going downstairs to lift weights and try to get into a better mood. On a related note, one of these days I'll get around to writing up my "Strength in Numbers" posts. I have three outlines...I just need to flesh out the material and decide what to link to...

Anyways, I'm a little down because the Hawks ran around like a bunch of...whatever runs around, I can't even think right now...and lost the game with about 20 seconds left in OT.

I'm not mad...I'm just disappointed.

Aren't you sick of Keith Urban?

I mean, yeah, he's sorta cute and I like a few of his songs, but enough already! They play him constantly on radio stations around me, and I'm sick and tired of Keith Urban! Besides, you can't see him on the radio...kinda pointless...

[/end rant]

Gripe Of The Day

People who drive diagonally across parking lots

If you are so stupid that you cannot read arrows, then perhaps you should not be driving a car.
Seriously, what's wrong with you? Are you stupid, reckless, inconsiderate, or all three?

You are a danger to yourself and others. Forfeit your license now, and swear to never get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle ever again. The world will be a better place.

Plus, think of all the time you'll have to: eat fast food, talk on your cell phone*, listen to music, beat your children, pick your nose (or whatever), change your clothes, put on makeup and light your cigarette. All without people honking their horns and flipping you off! Yay!

Have a nice day.

* "texting" was not on this list because, let's face it, if you are unable to read arrows, then text is just another bunch of squiggly lines to you, anyway.

My cheese knife broke!!!

So I bought a replacement at Meijer, and I hate it. It looks sort of like this:

It does not work as well as my old one did, damnit. This new one mangles the cheese, rather than slicing it. The holes in the blade are too large and it sort of double-cuts the cheese as it slices through it, making a mess of the whole process. Grrr....

So now I'm searching online to try to find a knife like my original one.

Here are my options so far:

A)
igourmet.com Signature Cheese Serving Knife: $9.99

B)
Kitchenworks cheese knife: $6.50

C) Henckels TWIN Collection Cheese Knife: $19.99

D) Wusthof Grand Prix II 5-in. Soft Cheese Knife: $59.95

Of course I'm also going to shop around and see what Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Kohl's, and other stores have...I'm so bummed about my knife... WAH!!!

Alex Burrows Is A Hair-pulling Sissy

There is no hair-pulling in hockey!!!!!!!

While fighting Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith, Alex Burrows suddenly reverted back to childhood where he apparently fought with a lot of other little girls and learned how to focus on pulling someone's hair during a fight.

Un-be-****ing-lievable...

Not just once. Not just twice. Not even three times. But four times during the same scrap.

Burrows, you are a gutless punk. If you were a man, I'd slap you...
