Been so long...

Well, it's been a long time, eh? A lot has happened. I'm sorry that I'm only  now getting back to this.

December 3rd, 2013...we lost Thumper. He was over 20 years old, which is quite a long life for a cat, but that didn't lessen the pain at all. It broke my heart.

July 20th, 2014, as Casey and I were driving out to Wanatah to look at some property, I turned to him and said, "I have this terrible feeling that my dad's days are numbered." That night, at 10:30pm, we got a call that my dad was in the emergency room, vomiting blood. He was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer, and given a month to live. After taking him to Northwestern for the Y90 treatment, he was able to hold on until just after Christmas. He passed away December 29th, 2014, at about 6:15pm. It broke my heart. I think about him a lot, and I miss him...but I'm okay with it now.

May 25th, 2015, Uncle Jim passed away, after a long hospital stay. I really thought he was going to be okay, but that's just not how it worked out. It broke my heart.

For the entire year after my dad was gone, I tried very hard to be patient with my mom, as we sorted out all of the financial stuff and her new responsibilities. She second-guessed me on everything, while refusing to make any decisions of her own. We are not really on speaking terms now. Only for urgent matters and true emergencies.

July 1st, 2015, I finally had the surgery to repair damaged ligaments in my ankle, which had been injured and re-injured over eight years.

October 14th, 2015, Casey had knee surgery to repair his torn ACL.

There have been many good things along the way, too. I don't mean to highlight the negative crap. It's just been kinda rough on me. But, I found out who my real friends are, that's for sure.

On February 25th, 2014, we adopted Enzo. He's an adorable fluffy orange cat who purrs loudly. Hence, the name. (i.e. Enzo Ferrari; motorcat; purrful furfle)

We have the house up for sale, and are anticipating a big move. Chicago winters can kiss my ass. Know what I'm sayin'?

Of course, all of this time, I have been cooking, baking, and eating... I look forward to providing you with recipes and entertainment. Should there be any recipes you'd like to request, please send me a message, or visit my Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/confessionsofaserialbaker
