Did I ever tell you about the time I threw up in the detergent aisle at the grocery store?

I was five years old and I had stayed home sick from school. Mom must have really needed stuff from the store, and for some reason, she decided to take me with her.

A lot of the time, if she was planning to be gone for less than 10 or 15 minutes, she'd just run out and leave me home by myself. The only time it was a problem was one time she forgot about a small saucepan in which she had been heating up some canned peas. They burned. I cannot even begin to describe the smell. I still hate peas to this very day. [/childhood trauma]

So, yeah, anyways, I'm sick and she drags me to the grocery store. I have no idea how long we'd been there, but we walked down the aisle where all the laundry soap, floor cleaners, Lysol, etc. were shelved. Basically, I just leaned forward and puked. Missed my shoes—I remember that distinctly. She picked me up and carried me out of the store.

That's all I really remember about the incident.

But now I have to hold my breath when I walk down the aisle at the store with the detergents. Smelling that won't make me gag or anything…I just have to get out of there quickly.

That ever happen to you?

2 year bloggerversary

So, another year has gone past, I joined FaceBook to try to get more people to visit my cooking blog, and it seems like I'm just spinning my tires. Still.

I would say that I'm becoming discouraged, since even less people post comments here than ever, but it has really been a lack of overall free time that keeps me from adding to the content here.

I have a back-log of food photos from October to current time, and I just can't seem to make the time to post new recipes to go along with the photos. The big hang-up, timewise, is that I can't copy the MS Word document and paste the text right into the blogger text box; it does funky things with meta tags and crap. So, then, just like I did last night, I've got to search through the "edit HTML" view and delete all the meta tag shit, so that my post will be accepted. See, I forgot that I have to copy the Word doc and post it in my "text edit" generic program, then copy and paste the text from there.

So, yeah, if I didn't have to jump through so many hoops, I'd probably be more active here.

I'll never stop cooking, of course, and the camera stays on the kitchen countertop, but transferring that into a blog post takes me more time than I'd like. AND, I should be working out at night....which I'm not doing, either... See? It's complicated.

Plus, I want to re-do the header of the site, and add some of my food photos, like Bob does on his blog, but I have not taken the time to figure out how the hell to do that. There's a really cool shot of my cookbook shelf that'd make a great image under the "Confessions of a Serial Baker" title. One day I'll get around to it...

So, yeah, I'm a little bummed, but I'm still constantly thinking of recipes...CONSTANTLY... I couldn't sleep last night, so I picked up a MS Everyday Food magazine from my bedside table...there were several things in it that I wanted to try! LOL!

Thanks to all my readers who....ah, hell, it's Auntie D, Amy, and Anne.... Thanks, girls, for sticking with me. :) Oh, and Bob. Thanks, Bob!!! I have more recipes to post, and I'll try to get to them soon.

Kind regards,
Goldie The Serial Baker

I'd like to know where the month of November went. Seems like I turned around for a moment, and it was suddenly gone!

I have a few batches of photos, both in iPhoto and still remaining on the camera, which I have not had a chance to blog about yet, but I do intend to...eventually.

Oh, and would you believe that I made a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings for Thanksgiving and didn't take photos of our meal? I think me & Emily got some pictures of desserts, but that was it.

As soon as possible, I will get some recipes posted. Sorry about all the neglect, but things have just been so incredibly busy around here.

More later....

Bad news / Good news

The bad news is: we're almost out of MultiGrain Cheerios...
The good news is: we now have a whole bunch of Marshmallow-Cheerios Treats!

Marshmallow-Cheerios Treats

In *large* saucepan, melt:
1 bag mini marshmallows
1/2 stick butter (HAS to be butter)
1 t. vanilla
pinch of salt

After it turns into a gooey mess, remove from heat and fold in:
about 5 cups MultiGrain Cheerios

Stir carefully, with a folding-in motion, to lift the marshmallow goo from the bottom of the pan, and turn it over to the top. Repeat until it looks well-mixed, or your arm gets tired.

Press flat into a greased 9x13 pan with a rubber spatula. At least try to let them cool a little while before digging in. NOTE: you'll need a steak knife to cut through these, because the Cheerios are more substantial than Rice Krispies.

Yah, I wonder how many calories they have after being doused in melted butter and marshmallows?! LOL...ah, who cares...?

my new library room

Well, after the boxes were sitting on the floor in the dining room for, what, three weeks, we now have them assembled. I say "we" like I had much to do with it. I got distracted, and Casey managed to complete the task. He said it got easier after the first one; you know how you get one put together, and then you just have to remember what you did before.

So, yah, it's done. Check another item off the list. (yes, we literally have a "to do" list.)

The photo above is taken from the doorway, and the other is taken from the corner behind the couch. I didn't include the couch in the pictures cause I'd have to move the pillows, blankets, electronics, DUST, etc. and I didn't feel like it.

I have to gather and organize all of my books and magazines before putting the shelves in, so that I know how to space them. There are magazines in binders and cardboard IKEA organizers that I have to find...all my gardening stuff got stored in the basement when we moved. I also have some Muscle & Fitness magazines that I need to locate and organize. *sigh* Anybody want to volunteer to help?!! LOL!

Here is a link to the IKEA bookcases we got:

As I had told AZPatticakes, now all we need in there is a Keurig...LOL!

Once again, we find ourselves celebrating National Marshmallow Toasting Day.

Find some joy, get in touch with your 'inner child,' and most importantly, put a marshmallow over an open flame! Make s'mores for your friends and loved ones. Enjoy!

Well, Amy thinks it's a good idea...

Earlier today, Amy came over for a cup of coffee, and we sat and chatted for a while. When I showed her how I organized my daily protein shake rations (I don't know why people think I'm o/c...?) she seemed to think it was a good idea.

I like to mix a spoon of instant coffee into my shakes, and making it quick-n-easy in pre-measured Gladware containers leaves less room for excuses. Rather than getting out either of the big Optimum Nutrition containers, I can simply empty a little ready-made cup into the blender, add milk & ice, and then BOOM, it's a shake.

Hope y'all take a lesson, or just some inspiration, from this little tip. :)

This was my first batch of beans from the garden. And one small acorn squash which turned out to be buggy. :(

Turco a Hawk

In what I consider to be an odd twist of fate, former Dallas Stars goalie Marty Turco is now a Chicago Blackhawk.

I have followed Marty's career for a while and considered him to be a "good guy"
(as long as he wasn't playing against my team). It all goes back to a tv show that's not on anymore called "NHL Cool Shots," which was a 1/2 hour program where they'd focus on different NHL players and teams.

The episode which sticks in my mind was one featuring the Dallas Stars doing a photo shoot for a calendar sold to raise money for the Humane Society. In this episode, Marty Turco was posing with this little black and white kitten, and talking about a similar cat he had when he was a kid. Well, that won me over! LOL!

Now, it sounds like he appreciates the opportunity to become a Blackhawk: The Blackhawks are a first-class organization in a world-class city and at this point in my career I am excited to be a part of a team that will give me such a good chance to win the Stanley Cup.”

I'm also LOL'ing because of the name I gave to the tacos I make with ground turkey, instead of ground beef....
